Visually Impaired and Blind Gamers

We are currently researching this area but for now here is the links we’ve found.

We have 9 games in the library which require no sight Visual Impairment: Full Support – Herefordshire Board Gamers- Free Community Lending Library (I believe we own all of them)

Games involving Blindfold / no sight by design
Masterfox
Quarto Access Tactile
Hand to Hand Wombat
Four Senses
Echos (not on the library website)
Nyctophobia (Donated thank you!)
Visionary
Team 3 (1 player)

Games which can be played with no sight due to tactile nature
Quixxo
Quorridor (We plan to make a more stable version)
Qomet (use one set of pieces upside down)

We have modified
Ok Play to be magnet and to have different faces.

Games which can be played with narration / adjustments
Blood on the ClockTower
Flip 7
Project L
Just one
Codenames
Bloodbowl (our local group has modded a version with a tactile board)

RPGs:
First They Came – Chaos League

We have also purchased
Tsuro and Qwirkle from 64 Oz Games Store – 64 Ounce Games (64-ounce-games.myshopify.com)
Free but slow postage and some box damage but recommended. These were complete games rather than a kit.
-Tsuro needs further modifications to stop the game pieces from sliding…..

Games to consider
Hive (not travel) the idents and high contrast may help (Look at hive carbon too)

We are also listing which games can be modified easily or played with a ‘narrator’ – We have a lot more work to do in this area, any recomendations

We list the games in our library which we believe could be played with a narrator
Visual Impairment: Partial Support – Herefordshire Board Gamers- Free Community Lending Library

Other things look at XXL version of games.
Codenames XXL is our default,

We have made giant versions of games to make them more accessible which may help some VI folks as well as mobility issues.
Catch the Moon,
Ok Play and
Phantom Ink (including player note taking boards)

We have also added magnets to the giant games so they can be played up a magnetic board rather than over table. We hope this is for better accessibility and easier to control the lighting as well

Swap out componets for different feel or higher contrast.

Consider lighting, room position and even things like busy tableclothes and distractions, these small changes may help.

RPGs are easy to convert!

Other tips:
Tech glasses with text to speech, combined with earphones

Ask questions, what type of games do they enjoy, if game experience is limited Films / or audio books try to get a feel for what they are into? Are they any other accessibility factors?
